About The Security Hackathon

The Security Hackathon aims to create a platform for students, freshers, and beginners to get recognized for solving prevalent cloud security problems.

Through this Hackathon, CloudThat aims to assess and upskill the future cloud professionals of India using Microsoft Azure technology. This virtual hackathon not only inspires individuals to boost their skills but also presents them with internship opportunities at CloudThat, exciting cash prizes, Microsoft exam vouchers and much more.

The Security Hackathon - Integrated with Microsoft Azure spans across 5 weeks and consists of 3 crucial stages where students are expected to work diligently on every challenge to progress to the next stage.

Process

Assessment and Idea Submission
  • Participants will have to enter stage 1 of the hackathon virtually. A MCQ quiz will be based on Microsoft Cloud Security Services. The MCQ quiz will be designed on CloudThat's Test Prep Platform to assess the participating group/individual.
  • The assessment will be live on the Test Prep Platform from the 9th of November - 28th of November 2022 (until 11:59 PM of the last date).
  • Participants (both groups and individuals) are expected to fill the idea submission form subsequently or within the stipulated time frame.
  • It's important for the individual to submit a proposed solution by using Microsoft Azure security services. If not, the idea will be rejected irrespective of the merit in the idea.
  • The results of stage-1 will be announced on the 5th of December 2022.
Evaluation
  1. MCQ quiz assessment: Weightage is 100%
  2. Idea submission evaluation: Weightage is 100%
Evaluation weightage for B is calculated based on the following parameters
  • Novelty of the idea (20%)
  • Feasibility and practicability of the idea (20%)
  • Scale of impact [The number of threats which your idea is addressing] (30%)
  • Number of Microsoft services utilized (30%)
Stage 1 score for Individuals/groups will be calculated on the average score achieved in phases A + B
Top 50 individual/groups will be moved to Stage-2

Designing the proposed solution

The proposed solution should be in the form of a recorded video + PPT.

  • Ensure to fill the details in the Stage 2 submission form which includes: Industry Name, Title of the Proposed Solution, Idea Description, Type of Azure Services, YouTube URL for recorded video/ File upload for PPT.
  • A PPT template will be provided by CloudThat. Please ensure to make a copy of the document.
  • Follow the guidelines while recording the videos
  • The theme of The Security Hackathon – Integrated with Microsoft will be “Addressing the challenges in Cloud Security”. The theme shall remain the same for all to ensure fairness.
  • It’s important for the individual to submit a proposed solution by using Microsoft Azure security services. If not, the proposed solution will be rejected irrespective of the merit in the idea.
  • Only one submission per group/individual will be allowed.
  • The submission for stage 2 of the hackathon will close on 12th of December 2022
  • No late submissions will be entertained
  • The results for the same will be announced on the 19th of December 2022
Stage 2 Evaluation – Submissions will be evaluated based on:
  • Feasibility and practicability of the idea (10%)
  • Architecture diagram (20%)
  • Scale of impact (The number of threats which your idea is addressing) (20%)
  • Number of Microsoft services utilized in a cost-effective manner (30%)
  • Business value (10%)
  • Innovation/originality (10%)
Note: The participants should follow recording guidelines and the PPT template.
Individuals/Groups aren’t permitted to seek assistance of the organizers/judges of the hackathon with regards to solving the problem statement. The results announced will be at sole discretion of CloudThat and its judges which will be considered final, and binding and no correspondence to be done in relation to such decisions.

Virtual Presentation
  • Only top 10 participants will enter this stage
  • During this stage, individuals/groups will present their ideas and proposed solution before the jury followed by the Q&As
  • Each group/individual will be allowed 20 minutes (15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes Q&A) to present their proposed solution.
  • The virtual stage will take place on the 22nd & 23rd of December 2022
Stage 3 Evaluation – The virtual presentation will be judged by a jury selected by CloudThat. Your presentation will be judged on the following parameters:
  • Uses of Security Services – (20%)
  • Innovation using Microsoft Azure – (25%)
  • Number of threats addressed in a cost optimised manner – (20%)
  • Impact – (10%)
  • Presentation & Communication – (15%)
  • Q&A- (10%)

  • To participate in the hackathon, the individual/group is expected to provide complete details in the required fields of the registration form.
  • In case of a group, the group lead needs to provide details of every member involved. Email ids of all group members need to be specified.
  • It’s important to provide a secondary email address in case the primary email address is inaccessible.
  • Be proactive and keep yourself updated on all the emails sent to you/group.
  • Registration will start on November 9, 2022, at 10:00 AM
  • Registrations will close on November 28, 2022, at 11:59 PM IST
  • Any queries or inquires with regards to the hackathon to be routed to events@cloudthat.com
  • Please make sure that registration is done only once.
  • All group need to adhere to grouping guidelines as specified above.
  • All group members should be from same college; no inter-college groups are allowed
  • In case of unresponsiveness or unavailability by an individual/group, participant(s) will not move forward.

Eligibility Criteria: Participants need to be a resident of India. Foreign national residents or Indians residing abroad need not apply to this Hackathon.

Verifying Eligibility: CloudThat reserves the right to verify the eligibility. By participating in this hackathon, you consent to providing CloudThat with any proof of eligibility as and when requested. Failure to follow this protocol may result in the individua/group's disqualification from The Security Hackathon - Integrated with Microsoft Azure.

Participation as a Group
  • Participants need to form a team of 3 members (minimum and maximum)
  • It is compulsory that groups are created from the same campus
  • All group members in the group need to meet the eligibility criteria of the hackathon
  • A participant cannot be a member of more than one group
  • Any alterations to the group details or its composition won't be permitted after registration
  • Members who participate at the start of the hackathon need to compete in the subsequent stages - until the end, if shortlisted
  • Changing of groups will not be allowed in stages 2 and 3 of the Hackathon
  • It is mandatory for the group to elect a group lead/point of contact. Once elected, the group lead should not be changed in the due course of the event. Remember, your group lead will be considered as the primary point of contact
  • If a group fails the assessment or is disqualified from the hackathon for any reason, they are not allowed to re-enter the event using an alternate email id
  • The participating group must decide on a group name which is neutral and free of profane or offensive language or that violates the intellectual property rights of others
  • If the group name doesn't meet the mentioned criteria, a name change may be requested by CloudThat in sole discretion
  • It's important to use Microsoft Azure Security Services and ideas need to be in lines with the same
  • The slightest deviation from the above points will result in disqualification of the entire group
Participation as an Individual
  • It is important for the individual participating in the Hackathon to provide us with complete and correct details, whenever requested.
  • If the participant decides to enter the hackathon individually, they cannot enter the event simultaneously through group participation.
  • If the individual fails the assessment or is disqualified from the hackathon for any reason, they are not allowed to re-enter the event using an alternate email id.
  • The individual can choose a pseudo name for the event. However, the name decided on should be neutral and free of profane or offensive language or that violates the intellectual property rights of others.
  • Any alteration to details won't be permitted once submitted. Please make sure to enter correct details.
  • If the individual's pseudo name doesn't meet the mentioned criteria, a name change may be requested by CloudThat in sole discretion
  • It's important to use the Microsoft Azure Platform and ideas need to be in lines with the same
  • The slightest deviation from the above points will result in disqualification from the hackathon

The recent Uber hack is just one example of the numerous threats that companies face. In today's digital world Data is Gold! Every organization, irrespective of its size, is susceptible to security threats and attacks. Protecting an organization's estate, resources, assets, and data from security breaches and attacks is an ongoing and escalating challenge. The most common security threats that almost every organization is facing in the current situation are listed below:

  • Password attacks
  • Phishing attacks
  • Ransomware attacks
  • Malware attacks
  • Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack
  • Cloud infrastructure attacks
  • Data theft
  • Less transparency on cloud data

The participants of this hackathon are supposed to design a proposed solution using Microsoft Azure security services, which should address a minimum of 2 threats mentioned above.

Be prepared to learn, brainstorm, and build amazing real-world skills to solve cybersecurity problems.

Note - Those entries that do not include the usage of Microsoft Azure will be disqualified.

  10. o Entries cannot be modified once submitted
  11. What to do in case I fill in wrong details for self or about my group member?
  12. o Details once submitted cannot be modified. We request you to double check before submitting
  13. Is the hackathon going to be physical or virtual event?
  14. o The hackathon is going to be a virtual event
  15. What to do if I face technical challenges during registration, assessment, and submission?

  17. Do I register from my college email id or personal email id?
  18. o You may register with your university/college id. However, your personal email id can be used in case issues are faced by the latter.
  19. Will there be a concession/exception for late submissions?
  20. o No concession or exception will be made for late submissions. Entries submitted late will be disqualified.
  21. Do I have to use Microsoft Azure Platform for this Hackathon?
  22. o Yes, you need to use Microsoft Azure Platform for this Hackathon. Any deviation from the same will result in disqualification.
  23. Will I be given to access Azure credits for the Hackathon?
  24. o Yes, you will be given Azure credits worth $100 to design your proposed solution. The credits will be presented to candidates who clear stage 1 and are eligible for stage 2 of the Hackathon.

  • The proposed solution once submitted becomes the property of CloudThat who reserve the right to edit, use or modify the submission in entirety or to any extent
  • Plagiarism in any form won't be entertained and will result in disqualification
  • Any intent or attempt to harm or offend one's gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, caste, or class is strictly prohibited and in doing so one will be disqualified from the Hackathon
  • Any trash talks about a fellow participate or competing participant on social media with the intent to demean or malign one's reputation is strictly prohibited
  • Any attempt made to malign or defame CloudThat' s reputation or image online or offline isn't permitted. Any serious allegations made, proven to be baseless shall not be entertained and will result in disqualification; legal action may be taken in severe cases
  • The internships offered at CloudThat will be non-paid
  • No attempts shall be made to contact the jury to reconsider the judgement in case of disqualification
  • Winners shall be shortlisted on merit solely at CloudThat' s discretion
  • CloudThat can decide to disqualify one's entry without any further notice
  • While consenting to participate in the Hackathon, you consent to the terms and conditions of the event
  • In case of group participation, the prize money shall remain the same for the entire group. The division of cash prize will be at sole discretion of the group members. CloudThat shall take no part in the same
