The Need to Foster a Strong Cloud Ecosystem in India

India has come back strongly in the post-pandemic world thanks to the digital transformation spree fueled by Cloud adoption. According to a recent Fortune Business Insights report, the global Cloud Computing market is expected to reach USD 791.48 billion by 2028. India too is not indifferent to the rapid changes taking place in this part of the world. 

To maintain the current momentum of growth India needs to have a strong cloud ecosystem. The promising fact is India’s public cloud revenue which includes Infrastructure-as-a-service) IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), SaaS (Software as a Service), and PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service), have been standing tall at $4.6billion. The overall Indian public cloud services market is also expected to reach $13.5 billion by 2026. 

A recent NASSCOM report says Cloud adoption can create 14 million jobs, and  add $380 billion to India’s GDP by 2026. At the same time, the demand-supply gap for cloud skills is at a high of 35.7% in FY 2021-22 while the talent CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) grew at 15.7% from 2017 to 2022. 

In the post-pandemic world, every sector starts from education, banking, healthcare, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, automobile, tourism, textiles, and many more segments have embraced Cloud computing.  

Addressing the upskilling challenge is of paramount importance in the current context for all industries as they must cloud enable their operations. To support these business verticals with the required cloud skills, empowering the young professionals with cloud and other niche technologies like AI/ML, IoT (Internet of Things) and Big Analytics is crucial.
